What Do You Want?

How would you answer this question?  If someone were to walk up to you on the street and say, “I can give you anything.  What do you want?”, what would your answer be?  I know there are many things in life we want.  For some of us it may be this.   For others it may be this.  And for many of us, it is this.  We may want many things in life but more often than not, we do not get everything on our wish list.  Honestly, in the long run it doesn’t really matter what we want.  Things are going to happen in ways we do not expect and it may be positive or negative.  What we want matters as much as a shot released after the buzzer.  We shouldn’t live our lives thinking we will always get what we want or that it matters more than anything.

Sound harsh to you?  Oh yeah, I definitely agree but as harsh as it sounds, it is the truth.  Life is full of ups and downs and what we think life should be rarely happens.  We can’t sit back watching the latest chick flick and think our lives will turn out the same as the happy couple that finds each other after a lifelong search.  For some of us it may turn out just like we thought.  We may help a stranger release her shoe from the man-holecover, save her from a dumpster flying down the hill, tell her that brown colored M&Ms are the only legitimate ones, and then experience that warm kiss with a black and white movie playing on a large screen in the background.   For some of us it turns out exactly the opposite of what we think. No matter what happens, it  is not a result of us wishing it will happen or wanting it to.  It happens because we are showered with grace from Christ that allows us to enjoy life here on earth.  A life that allows us to experience anything and everything life has to offer.   Our lives have already been planned out and are a result of a master plan that is working perfectly in the eyes of God.

Isn’t it hard to believe sometimes?  I don’t know about you, but I know there are plenty of times I just want an answer.  Why is this happening to me?  Why do I feel this way?  What am I supposed to do?  It’s questions like these that are already answered and we  have to wait for God’s watch to pass the hour before we are able to know the answer.  That is the beauty of it and we should rest in the knowledge that he wants the best for us and already knows what our lives are going to be.

So now what do you want?  It probably hasn’t changed since the beginning of this post.  We probably all want a happy life where we have someone to love and that loves us back no matter what.  Most of us probably want a family to care for and someone to hold tight when the weather gets chilly.  We all probably want a yard full of grass to invite the neighbors over to grill and have the children play the best game of wiffle ball they can.  This all sounds amazing and while I may want this all now, while you may want this all now, we all should hold close to our hearts the fact that we already do have someone to love and who loves us back no matter what.  Someone who has already invited us to his yard and wants us to stay forever . . .
